Red light therapy before tanning
Yes, it is recommend that it be used before tanning, since the red light therapy brings blood to the surface of your skin and produces a better tan through increased oxidation of melanin.

WHAT DO I WEAR DURING AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER MY AIRBRUSH TAN?
Most wear a thong style bottom, but you may tan in anything you feel comfortable in. We recommend that it be something dark, due to the bronzer in the solution. For the next 8 hours after you tan, wear loose fitting, darker clothing so your tan can process evenly.

Pre-Spray Tan Instructions We want your spray tan to leave you looking good and feeling great. We offer these instructions in order to help you achieve the best possible tan. 1) Exfoliate your skin before your spray tan. Washing with a wash cloth will generally do the job. 2) We recommend that you shave 8 hours before your tan. If you wax, we recommend that you do so 24-48 hours prior to your tanning session. This will allow the hair follicles / pores to close back up before getting your tan. If you spray tan immediately after shaving or waxing, you may end up with little dots! 3) Shower shortly before your tanning session. Do NOT use moisturizing soaps (such as Dove or Oil of Olay) or body wash before you tan. Exfoliating with a “Sunless Scrub,” “Pre-Tan Scrub,” “Microdermamitt” or other appropriate product is recommended. In a pinch, I have had good sprays tans using clean (non moisturizing) bar soap like Ivory. Do not apply makeup, moisturizers, perfume, deodorant or cosmetics prior to your tanning session. Wearing deodorant may leave green stains under your arms! 4) Wear or bring dark, loose fitting clothes to wear home. Avoid wool, lycra, nylon, spandex, silk, rayon and leather, as these may stain. The bronzer used in the tanning solution may come off on your clothes or anything you touch. This will normally wash out when doing laundry and typically does not leave a permanent stain. 5) Please do not wear jewelry while spray tanning. 6) Best to wear flip flops or sandals. After Your Spray Tan It is important for you to follow these guidelines after your tanning session to help your tan to develop correctly. Do NOT shower or get in water for a minimum of 6-8 hours after being sprayed. The tanning solution needs time to develop on your skin and, generally, the longer you wait the better your tan will be. When you shower the first time after your tan, avoid using a wash cloth, exfoliates or abrasives. Wash with a mild shower gel or soap. When you shower the first time after the tan, you may notice some brown color washing off. That is the bronzer and it will not affect your tan. Avoid exercise, hot weather or activities that cause you to sweat for at least the first 4 hours after the tan. Moisturize, Try to use a moisturizer with bronzer after you shower each day. Spray tans typically last 4-7 days, depending on a variety of factors. If you spray tan weekly, we recommend that you take a full 10 day break after each 5 weeks of tanning. |
Perhaps you live in an area where the weather is hot and humid. Maybe you reside in a place where the temperatures are cold and brisk. Depending on your location, you’ll have either hard water, well water or overly soft water. All these factors play a critical role in the skin you present to your spray tan technician. Here are some simple basics and tips to combat the common environmental issues that affect spray tanning.
Hard or Well Water
If you have hard water, you definitely notice that body washes, soaps and shampoos just don’t produce a whole lot of lather. That’s because the minerals in the water are reacting with some of the ingredients in the products being used, producing a residue that does not wash away easily. Well water PH fluctuates daily, especially after a storm, so you might give a great spray tan one week and a poor one next month. Attempting to spray tan with product build-up results in no color, light color, splotches or only a few days of color.
Solution:
If you use soft water, you may feel like it takes ages to rinse off your products and you’re left feeling greasy and oily. Yes, water can be overly soft. Alkaline with a high PH over 7 creates a slippery feel to the skin. In addition, water that is overloaded with salt molecules can cause DHA to overly saturate into the skin resulting in an orange cast.
Solution:
Any arid conditions virtually strip the skin of moisture on a 24-hour basis. Excessively dry skin overly pulls the DHA and typically causes an orange cast. Not to mention, DHA will stick to any dry patches on the skin, creating a splotchy-looking spray tan.
Solution:
The skin loves humidity! However, combining high humidity and high heat spells disaster for a spray tan. The constant sweating throws off the skin’s PH, plus it washes off the solution and post spray products much faster. Sell retail products that contain humectants in your salon. Humectants work best in humid areas, because they absorb water from the air and actually require a high level of humidity to be effective.

Solution:

- If alcohol is in the top two ingredients of a skin care product, don’t use it!
- Apply moisturizers within two minutes of exiting the shower with the door closed to retain humidity during application.
- Avoid hot showers, keep them lukewarm.
